Membership
A person who is able to document his or her lineal descent from one or more of the Mayflower passengers is eligible to apply for membership in the Mayflower Society. There are 29 passengers who are known to have descendants. The following list gives the names of these Mayflower ancestors, from whom all our members directly descend:
To begin the membership application process, complete the application review form. Fill it out beginning with the name of your Mayflower ancestor. On the next line, list his son or daughter and whom he or she married. Then, list the next son or daughter and his or her spouse, through the generations down to you. Send the completed form to our Historian. After receiving the completed application review form, our Historian will verify whether or not you are a descendant of one of the Mayflower passengers listed above. At the conclusion of that process, the Historian will send you a preliminary application, which you must return to the Historian with a check for $50 payable to the Utah Mayflower Society. The Historian will then send you a worksheet, with instructions for filling it out, and a description of the types of documents that are accepted by the General Society of Mayflower Descendants in Plymouth, Massachusetts. The best documentation for proving your lineage from a Mayflower passenger is primary source material such as vital records of birth, marriage and death, cemetery and mortician's records, marriage bonds and licenses, probate records, military and pension records, deeds and wills, tax lists and published books. Published family histories and genealogies, town histories, and census records are considered secondary source material and may be considered only when primary records are not obtainable. The Mayflower Society does not accept LDS family group sheets, ancestral files, or other computer-generated documents. For additional information on documentation and how to locate it, go to the research page of this web site. If you have specific questions about how to join, please contact our Historian. By joining the Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of Utah, you automatically become a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, and you will be issued a Utah Society membership number and a General Society membership number. You will be entitled to all the benefits and privileges afforded to members, including a subscription to The Mayflower Quarterly, pictured below.
